Recording Observations
Observations are written records of a child's development and learning. They are linked to curriculum pathways and, once approved by a manager, can be shared with parents.
Writing an Observation
- Go to Observations → New Observation or open the child's profile and select Add Observation.
- Write a description of what you observed - be specific and factual.
- Attach photos if you captured the moment.
- Select the relevant curriculum pathway(s): you can select more than one.
- Add a child's comment if the child said something noteworthy.
- Submit for approval.
Pending Approval
After submitting, your observation is in pending status. Your manager will review it and either approve or return it with feedback. You'll be notified when it's approved.
Curriculum Pathways
Wootzoo supports the Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLE) used in the Curriculum for Wales, as well as other frameworks. Your manager will tell you which pathways to use. You can select multiple pathways for a single observation if it covers more than one area.
Photos on Observations
You can attach photos directly to an observation. These are included when the observation is shared with parents and when Stori reports are generated. Photos should clearly show the child engaged in the activity being observed.
Once Approved
Approved observations are visible to all staff with access and, if the manager toggles sharing on, to parents too. They are also included in Stori reports and formal assessments.
